COACH STEVE JANZEN

  •       University: (CIS) Member of the Trinity Western University Spartans (2002-2005), 2002-05 Academic-All Canadian, Top 10 3 pointers in CanadaWest, Top 25 in scoring, and Co-captain in 2004-05 season.

Coach Janzen is a former Trinity Western Spartan standout shooting guard, co-captaining the team in his senior year. After completing both his Human Kinetics and Teaching degrees, he pursued his dream of playing professionally in Europe. Coach Janzen finished a seven-year career playing professional basketball in Germany and is currently a Teacher and Basketball coach at Semiahmoo Secondary. He is eager to share with youth, ‘what it takes’ to ELEVATE their game to the next level, and inspire the next generation through his experience, passion, and knowledge.

Coach Janzen has extensive basketball camp coaching experience (since 2000), 7 years’ experience coaching various youth club teams in Germany, and has coached high school basketball since 2010. Coach Janzen has completed his Masters Degree at University of British Columbia in Education (Curriculum & Pedagogy). Using his vast experience and knowledge of basketball and with his instructional abilities as a teacher, Coach Janzen is great at developing aspiring basketball players.

COACH TAYLOR CHERRIS-WILDING

  • High School: Senior Boys Basketball MVP at Terry Fox Secondary(2000), All-Star/MVP at numerous tournaments, Senior Boys AAA Fraser Valley Champions at Terry Fox (2000), Senior Boys AAA Provincial silver medal (2000), B.C. High School All-Star game starting PG, Basketball B.C. B.E.S.T. Scholarship award winner presented by the Vancouver Grizzlies, and McDonald’s, and Basketball B.C.
  • College: Langara College 2001 (8th place finish at CCAA Nationals) (pac west all-rookie team)
  • Basketball B.C. U-19 provincial team starter (2001 Canada Summer Games Silver Medal) (Tournament All-Star Avg 18 pts, 6ast, 4rb, 3 stls.)
  • Douglas College 2003 Pacwest first team All-Star, CCAA All-Canadian (20 ppg, 4asg, 2 spg), shot %50 3pt, %45 fg, %90 ft
  • University: University of Manitoba team captain (2004), U-sports 2nd team all star(2004), Led the country in 3pt % @ 50.5 (only player in Canada above %50), was in the top 10 in all categories except rbs, and blks. (13ppg) University of Manitoba team MVP 2004
  • Brandon University 2007 most inspirational award winner (10 ppg), team was nationally ranked #1 for 17 straight weeks, Canada West silver medal, U Sports Silver medal @  U Sports Nationals (2007)

Coach Taylor has been an all star point guard/shooting guard every where he’s played. Taylor fell in love with basketball at an early age, with so much skill required, he became obsessed with  working on his game. It was at the age of 14 that Taylor decided to quit all other sports and focus solely on basketball, putting in countless hours to become the best player he could with the goal of earning a scholarship to University, Taylor is a true ‘gym rat’, he ended up leading top 3 high school team to the provincial final, going to college and university on scholarships every year.  All those hours helped him to become one of the best shooters in the country.

It is now 20 years later and Coach Taylor is as dedicated as ever as a coach, he truly loves passing on what he has learned to the next generation. Coach Tay has been working and living in Vancouver since graduating from Brandon University in 2007. He has been a youth worker, a support worker with the VSB, and now an EA at Vancouver College, working with some of the cities most vulnerable students. He started RainCity Basketball in the summer of 2017, with his passion to grow the game in Vancouver is Raincity Basketball is taking off.

COACH ELLIOT MASON

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Highschool JN Burnett 2005-2010: First team all star, Lower mainland best offensive player award, Invite to the provincial all star game
  • Langara College: 2x provincial second team all star, 1x first team all star, 2x provincial champion, 1x bronze medal canadian national championship, 1x Gold medal canadian national championship

Coach Mason has been involved in the Vancouver and Lower Mainland basketball community for the past 15 years.  As a player he grew up and played basketball at JN Burnett highschool in Richmond BC, where he helped lead the school to their first provincial highschool championship tournament appearance. In his senior year, he received the best offensive player award at the Lower Mainland Championships.

Continuing his post secondary basketball career, Coach Mason attended Langara College, where he went on to win multiple provincial championships and a Gold medal at the Canadian National Championships in 2014. Since then, Coach Mason has continued to play basketball at a high level and has developed a passion for sharing his knowledge and helping young hoopers achieve their goals on and off the court.  He credits his success as a player to the endless hours spent in the gym developing his skills, and mastering the art of shooting.
